THE PROBLEM

America's gun problem derives from several different reasons. Culture, mental health, and gun laws/availability all play significant roles in the problem. In 2019, media has shown us devastating shootings occurring all throughout the country, which has caused citizens to worry about the safety of themselves and their families. Though the outroar on solving the problem is immense, the government hasn't shown much involvement in making new laws to combat the rising gun death tolls. There are two major perspectives on gun violence, obviously being left and right. The liberal perspective wants strict gun laws, as they correlate gun availability to gun deaths. The conservative view abides by the second amendment, stating, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Whether you're on one side or the other, all perspectives must be looked at, so all sides of the story are understood. However, the gun violence issue won't dissipate itself. Change needs to occur, and the government is the only power that can do any significant change for the country's well-being.

HOMICIDE AND SUICIDE: DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

As you can see from the graph, the US' suicide and homicide rates are staggering compared to other developed countries.  In fact, American are 25% more likely to be shot with a gun than in other developing countries.

RISING GUN DEATHS

The rise in gun deaths every year shows the governments lack of persistence in combatting the issue. Few laws have been passed and no real change has happened in the gun scene. On average 96 Americans are killed in a single day.

HIGH POWER ASSAULT WEAPONS

Assault rifles are not necessary for protection, nor for hunting, therefore their allowance does not comply with the reasons they are meant to be used far, making them an unnecessary threat to the public. They are far more lethal than pistols, but the 2nd amendment is the only factor protecting their existence.
